Dupatta fabric

A standard rectangular dupatta on 44" fabric needs 2.25–2.50 m. Wide dupattas with embroidered borders need 2.75–3.00 m.

  • Standard dupatta: 2.25 m (44" fabric)
  • Wide with border: 2.75 m
  • On 36" fabric: add 0.25–0.50 m
  • On 54" fabric: 2.00 m is usually enough

Full suit total fabric

Add kameez + bottom + dupatta for total fabric. Buying from the same cloth piece gives you a perfect colour match.

  • Hip-length suit (44"): 2.25 + 2.00 + 2.25 = 6.50 m
  • Knee-length suit (44"): 3.25 + 2.25 + 2.25 = 7.75 m
  • Floor-length anarkali (44"): 4.00 + 2.00 + 2.25 = 8.25 m
  • Add 10% buffer to all totals

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How many metres of fabric for a complete salwar kameez suit?

On 44" wide fabric: a hip-length suit (kameez + churidar + dupatta) needs about 6.50 m total. A knee-length suit needs 7.75 m. A floor-length anarkali needs about 8.25 m. Always add 10% buffer.

How much fabric for a churidar kurtha on 44 inch fabric?

With full sleeves on 44" fabric: hip-length 2.25 m, thigh-length 2.75 m, knee-length 3.25 m, floor/anarkali 4.00 m. For sleeveless, subtract 0.50 m from each figure.

How much fabric does a dupatta need?

A standard dupatta needs 2.25–2.50 m on 44" wide fabric. Wider dupattas with heavily embroidered borders may need 2.75–3.00 m. On 36" fabric, add 0.25 m extra.

Should I buy kameez and salwar fabric from the same lot?

Yes — always buy from the same dye lot if using the same fabric. Even small dye-lot variations can cause visible colour differences between the top and bottom. Most fabric shops sell matching dress material bundles for this reason.
